Vivian Louise Helgeson, 82, of Blackduck, MN died on December 4, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck, MN with Rev. Anne Meredith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
Vivian was born on June 18, 1935 in Luverne, MN to Gullick and Emma (Thompson) Rye. She was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. She was raised and attended school in Hills, graduating in 1953. She then worked at the local grocery store in Hills, and in an optical shop in Sioux Falls, SD. She married Donald Helgeson in Hills, MN on August 28, 1955. They lived on and farmed the Rye family farm until 1971 when they moved to Tenstrike, MN where they owned and operated Cedar Rapids Lodge on Medicine Lake for 17 years. In 1987 they moved to Big Sky, MT where they enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing and hiking in the mountains. She worked at Buck's T-4 Lodge and in a deli while living there. In September of 1991 they returned back to northern Minnesota to be closer to the grandchildren; living first in Hines and then moving to Bemidji in 2007. Vivian and Don moved to Blackduck in June of 2010 to the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck and she has received a continuum of care there since. Vivian was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN and Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck. She was a past member of the Hills American Legion Auxiliary, Bemidji Chamber of Commerce and Resort Association and the Lady Slipper Homemakers Club. She enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Vivian is survived by four daughters, Jewel (Dan) Rockensock of Blackduck and Emily Helgeson and Linda (David Tisdell) Helgeson, both of Bemidji and Jennifer (John) Anderson of Tenstrike; eight grandchildren, Teresa (Wayne) Hawkinson of Andover, MN, Aaron (Courtney) Dreyer of Elk River, Breanne Dreyer of Bemidji, Tanner Dremmel of Lake George, Seth Dremmel of Bemidji, Taylor Tisdell of Nashville, TN and Dominic Anderson and Benjamin Anderson, both of Tenstrike; six great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Britney and Kylie Dreyer and Reagan, Kate and Mackenzie Hawkinson; a brother, Glenn Rye of Sun City West, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Helgeson in August of 2010; grandson, Brett Rockensock; parents, Gullick and Emma Rye; two brothers, Norris and Raymond Rye; three sisters, Opal Nelson, Eldora Bakk and Beverly Nerison; and three infant brothers.
