USDA - FOREST SERVICE EASTERN REGION CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST CASS COUNTY, MINNESOTA Notice of Objection Process Hwy 2 Corridor Improvement Project Forest Supervisor, Darla Lenz intends to select Alternative B, the proposed action which consists of construction of 3 passing lanes, 12 turning lanes, and thinning some areas on the south side of Hwy 2. The project is located between Cass Lake and Deer River. This project is being done in conjunction with Minnesota Department of Transportation. The proposed project is subject to the objection process pursuant to Forest Service regulations 36 CFR 218, subpart A. This is a non-HFRA project. An objection may be filed in writing by individuals or organizations that have previously submitted specific written comments regarding the proposed project during scoping or other designated opportunity for public comment. Issues raised in the objections must be based on previously submitted timely, specific written comments regarding the proposed project unless based on new information arising after designated opportunities. Objections must meet the requirements of 36 CFR 218.8. The objection must contain, as a minimum, the following information: the lead objector's name, physical mailing address, and telephone number, if available; signature or other verification upon request; the name of the proposed project, the name and title of the Responsible Official, National Forest, and District; description of aspects of the proposed project addressed by the objection, including specific issues and if applicable how analysis or draft decision specifically violates the law, regulation, or policy; and a statement that demonstrates the connection between prior specific written comment and the content of the objection, unless the objection concerns an tissue that arose after the designated opportunities for comment. An objection must be postmarked and submitted to the, USDA Forest Service, Eastern Regional Office, Attn: Reviewing Officer, Kathleen Atkinson, 626 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 700, Milwaukee, WI 53202, within 45 days (by 11:59 pm) from the date of this legal notice. When the 45-day filing period would end on a Saturday, Sunday, or Federal holiday, the filing time is extended to the end of the next Federal working day. The date of the publication of this notice is the only means for calculating the date by which an objection must be filed; do not rely upon any other source for this information. An objection may alternatively be faxed to: (414) 944-3963. Those wishing to submit objections by email may do so to objections-eastern-region@fs.fed.us. Acceptable formats for electronic objections are text or html email, Adobe portable document format, and formats viewable in Microsoft Office applications. Hand-delivered, express delivery, or messenger service delivered objections may be submitted at the above address between 7:30 and 4:00 pm CT Monday through Friday, except on Federal holidays. It is the objector's responsibility to ensure filing of a objection within the established time period. No means of communication is perfect. If no objection is received, then a final decision may occur on, but not before, the 5th business day following the end of the objection filing period.
