Frances C. Malterud, age 94 of Becida, Minnesota died Friday, August 16, 2013 in Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, Bemidji, MN, surrounded by her family, 15 days short of her 95th birthday.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home and for one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Fern Township Cemetery, Becida MN under the direction of the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, MN.
Frances Christi Millar was born August 31, 1918 in Shevlin, MN to John and Julia (Olson) Millar. She lived in Shevlin from 1918-1939. She attended district #3 Bagley School, was baptized and confirmed at Shevlin Clearwater Lutheran church. After finishing school she worked in numerous homes and in her grandfathers store in Becida MN. She married Charles Malterud Nov. 30, 1939 in Bemidji. Frances lived on a farm where she raised her four children. After they were through school and college she started working in 1967 as a food service worker at the college in Bemidji for 5 years. When her husband Charles passed away she worked at the hospital as a cook and baker for 8 years retiring in 1980 due to her health. She lived on the same farm all her married life and she spent her golden years gardening, piecing quilts and volunteering at the Senior Citizen Center, cooking, baking, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables for her family and friends. Frances worked in the church at Becida, was a ladies aid officer and Sunday school teacher. She worked with young teenagers with the Luther League and joined Bethel Lutheran Church in 1993. Frances enjoyed spending time with her family.
Frances is survived by daughters, Carol Holm, Bemidji, MN; Hazel (Philip) Johnson, Kasson, MN; sons, Steve Malterud, Laguana Beach, CA & Glenn Malterud, Becida, MN; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Elaine) Millar, West Fargo, ND; sisters, Joyce Chapman, Mpls, MN & Dorothy Traaseth, Bagley, MN.
She was preceded in death by Parents, John Guy & Julia Millar, Husband, Charles Malterud;
brothers, James Millar, Clifford Millar & Gerald Millar and son-in-law, Everett Holm.
