Predatory offender to be released, meeting planned for Dec. 17
CASS LAKE – A community notification meeting has been scheduled one day before a level 3 predatory offender is scheduled to be released into rural Ten Lake Township.
Gerald Lee Jones, 29, is being released into the area Dec. 18. According to a Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office press release, he has a history of engaging in sexual contact with an adult female against her will.
His address is listed as the 1100 block of Quill Lane Southeast in rural Cass Lake, according to the press release. Jones isn’t wanted by the police and has served his court sentence.
The community meeting will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 in Ten Lake Town Hall, 2142 Mission Road SE. Representatives from the state Department of Corrections and the sheriff’s office will be on hand to provide information.
Jones was charged with two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct in 2006, but was ultimately sentenced to third degree assault, a felony. He was required to register as a predatory offender as a result of that conviction, said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sarah Berg.
“Registration isn’t based on the offense someone is convicted of, it’s based on the circumstances or events of the crime,” Berg said in an email.
In 2008, Jones was convicted of knowingly violating registration requirements and was sentenced to 26 months in prison, according to court records. He was also convicted of five counts of violating a no-contact order in October 2011, according to court records.
There are three other people in Beltrami County with the level 3 predatory offender classification, according to the Department of Corrections website. Level 3 indicates the highest risk to re-offend.
Jones was released from prison on Nov. 26, Berg said, but his housing situation fell through and he was sent to jail.
According to the Corrections Department website, other Level 3 sex offenders living in Beltrami County are:
-- Jerrold Ryan Kemmer, 33, of Bemidji
-- Bruce Albert Taylor, 33, of Ponemah
-- Donald Wayne Yellow, 43, of Red Lake
