21-year-old Backus woman killed in crash in Pine River

PINE RIVER - A 21-year-old Backus woman was killed in a two-vehicle broadside crash reported at 6:30 a.m. Thursday on 24th Street and 16th Avenue Southwest in Pine River, reported the Minnesota State Patrol.

The woman killed, Caitlyn E. Daudt, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Ryan M. Kline, 30, Pine River, was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound on 24th Street Southwest and Sandre K. Strausser, 50, Backus, was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on 16th Avenue Southwest. Daudt was a passenger in Strausser's vehicle. The state patrol said that Kline's vehicle struck Strausser's vehicle broadside, as the Cavalier failed to yield in the right of way.

Strausser was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where she was in serious condition. Kline was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd for non-life threatening injuries.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
