Missing northeast Minnesota park employee found OK after nine-hour search

SOUDAN, Minn. -- A 76-year-old employee of a northern Minnesota state park who went missing while picking up garbage along a trail was found uninjured early Thursday after a search of nearly nine hours.

Adrienne De Vries, 76, of Soudan, was located by search crews at about 3 a.m. Thursday, about three miles from the trail she started along Wednesday at Soudan Underground Mine State Park.

Said she went to pick up garbage east of the park visitor center and didn’t come back.

The  St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that she started down the trail and lost her way back.

After De Vries failed to return by the end of her shift at 6 p.m., park staff started search for her. Park staff called law enforcement about 6:20 p.m. St. Louis County Rescue Squad personnel found De Vries early Thursday.

De Vries was taken to Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital for precautionary measures. She was reported to be cold but in good condition.

The park is about 30 miles northeast of Virginia, Minn., along Lake Vermillion.
