Cass County calls for no-wake zone

WALKER -- Because of high water on lakes throughout the county, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office on Monday put in place a no-wake area within 300 feet of shoreline on all area lakes until water levels recede.

Sheriff Tom Burch said in a press release that homeowners should take caution and ensure that boat lifts, boats, docks, rafts, etc are properly secured and not floating loose. Officials said boaters should use extreme caution and be respectful of property while in high water areas, especially channels, because of the increased swift currents. There have been several reports of property damage, along with docks, floating bogs and other items that have floated loose from the shore, the release said, and careless operation of a watercraft laws will be enforced.

Several other counties in the region, including Beltrami County, have advised boaters to take a no-wake approach on area waters because of recent flooding issues.
