Officials release names of three people killed in plane crash outside of Thief River Falls

Leech Lake Band 2014 elections on Tuesday

CASS LAKE -- The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe will be holding its general election Tuesday. Positions on the ballot include secretary/treasurer, District 1 representative and District 2 representative.

Incumbent Donald J. Finn will be up for reelection against challenger Arthur "Archie" LaRose. LaRose beat 10 other candidates in the 2014 primary election.

District 1 Representative Robbie Howe will not be seeking reelection. James Howard and Penny DeVault are on the ballot for Howe's vacancy. Ten people filed for candidacy in District 1.

Incumbent Representative Steven W. White received 71 percent of the votes in the primary so he will not have an opponent in the general election.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. District 1 polling places include the community centers at Inger, Ball Club and Squaw Lake. District 2 polling places are at Bena, Sugar Point and Spokey Point/Kego Lake community centers. District 3 polling locations include Dikinaagan Center Mission in Cass Lake and the community centers in Onigum, Cass River and Oak Point.

Bemidji voting precinct is at Bemidji City Hall Council Chambers at 317 4th Street NW in Bemidji. A voting precinct in the Twin Cities is located at the Minneapolis American Indian Center at 1530 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55404.

A Duluth voting precinct was opened for the primary on April 1 at 202 West 2nd Street. Absentee voting can be done through the Che-W-ka-E-Gon Complex at 6530 Highway 2 NW, Cass Lake, MN 56633.

District 1 includes Ball Club, Deer River, Duluth, Inger, Squaw Lake and Winnie Dam. District 2 includes Bena, Boy Lake, Kego Lake, Smokey Point and Sugar Point.

General results will be certified by the election board by 8 p.m. June 11.
