MNsure tops 136,000 enrollees

ST.PAUL — MNsure topped 136,000 enrollees Tuesday morning, beating its goal of signing Minnesotans up for health insurance via a state-run website.

“We’re not done yet," interim MNsure CEO Scott Leitz said. "There are six days left in open enrollment and we want to make sure every Minnesotan has the ability to obtain health insurance coverage.”

MNsure’s original goal of enrolling 135,000 Minnesotans during the 2014 open enrollment period was established at the MNsure board of directors meeting last fall.

Most of those insured through MNsure are in state programs for low-income Minnesotans: 27,512 in MinnesotaCare state-subsidized insurance and 73,086 in Medical Assistance free care. As of Tuesday morning, private policies were sold to 36,176 Minnesotans.

Monday is the final deadline for people not on state programs to make plan selection and payment for coverage starting May 1. MNsure announced Monday that anyone who had started to buy insurance by the deadline will be allowed to continue the purchase process.

The MNsure call center will remain open through the end of open enrollment. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekends.
