3 horses killed when hit by car in Polk County

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. -- Three horses were killed early Monday when they were struck by a vehicle in rural East Grand Forks.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Danny Johnson, 30, of Red Lake Falls, was eastbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Polk County Road 17 about 2 a.m. when his vehicle struck the three horses, which were on the roadway.

All three horses died in the accident. The airbag deployed in Johnson’s vehicle and he escaped unharmed. Johnson was the only person in the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department, which was assisted at the scene by the East Grand Forks Police Department.
