Volunteers to start sandbagging in Moorhead
MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) -- Moorhead is calling for volunteers to help fill sandbags as the city prepares for possible spring flooding.
A sandbagging center opens at 7 a.m. Monday. Volunteers will work in a heated public works building with heated restrooms on the north side of Moorhead.
The city plans to keep the center open longer each day than originally announced.
Hours are now set for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The city is providing shovels. Volunteers should bring their own gloves.
Moorhead hopes to fill and store 300,000 sandbags. The city also is bringing in an automated sandbagging machine, but that won't arrive for two or three weeks.
