Deputy dies after being struck by car at haunted house
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) -- A reserve Ramsey County sheriff's deputy has died after being struck by a car Saturday night at a haunted house where he was volunteering.
It happened about 8:30 p.m. at the Fright Farm Halloween site. Fifty-six-year-old Michael Wilken of Newport was taken Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died early Sunday morning.
The sheriff's office says Wilken suffered multiple critical injuries.
The Fright Farm was a fundraiser for the county's D.A.R.E. program. Wilken was a reserve deputy for 10 years and had volunteered at hundreds of events.
The sheriff's office says Wilken is survived by his wife, Donna, and two grown children.
