Fargo mayor will run for re-election

FARGO – Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker has announced he will seek re-election in 2014.

Walaker, who was first elected mayor in 2006 after years as public works director, made the announcement on his Facebook page Thursday.

In a public posting on his page, Walaker said the city has multiple projects in the works that require a full-time mayor. He pointed to the proposed flood diversion, building a new city hall and the new Sanford Health facility.

The mayor is elected to a four-year term.

Walaker said if he’s elected in 2014, it will be his last term. Before him, Bruce Furness served as mayor from 1994 to 2006.
