Four escape serious injury after head-on collision near Akeley

BEMIDJI -- Four people escaped serious injury after a head-on collision in Hubbard County late Monday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Wassana Kiewnoi, 33, of Nevis, collided with a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Jacob Krueckeberg, 20, of Akeley, at about 3:45 p.m. Monday afternoon near the intersection of state Highways 64 and 34 just outside of Akeley in Hubbard County. The accident remains under investigation, and the Patrol did not give any further details on what may have caused the collision on Monday evening, but listed the road conditions as wet.

Kiewnoi and Krueckeberg each had a passenger in their vehicles: Logan Ellenson, 20, of Park Rapids, in Krueckeberg's vehicle and Meena Claris, 43, no hometown listed, in the Kiewnoi's Grand Cherokee.

All four were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids with non-life-threatening injuries, the Patrol said. All four were wearing their seat belts and airbags were deployed, the Patrol said.
