Apartment development to go before Bemidji councilors

BEMIDJI — An apartment development is in the works for the city’s south shore near the Sanford Center.

Aaron Chirpich, development director with the Headwaters Regional Development Commission, described the proposed apartment as “high-end” for young professionals as well as families.

He declined to name the developers or which lot they are looking to buy. The developers are planning to come before city councilors to discuss their proposal.

That Bemidji Economic Development Authority meeting could come as early as mid-June, Chirpich said.

While details are scarce, the apartment represents more development on the city-owned property. Townhome construction northeast of the Sanford Center has already begun and the DoubleTree Hotel is nearing completion.

Meanwhile, developers of a Country Inn and Suites attached to the Sanford Center are working to meet a mid-July deadline to align their finances.
