Sex offender to be released in Bemidji

Michael Warren Smith

BEMIDJI – A level-three predatory offender with a history of sexual contact with young children will be moving to Bemidji next week.

Michael Warren Smith, 27, will move into the 500 block of Fourth Street Northwest on April 24, according to a notification from the Bemidji Police Department.

Smith is not wanted by police and has served his sentence. Police are releasing his information in accordance with state statute.

Smith was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2006. According to police, he has a history of sexual contact with male and female victims, who he knew, ages 3 to 6.

Level-three sex offenders are the most likely to re-offend.

“This notification is not intended to increase fear in the community,” the notification states. “Law enforcement believes that an informed public is a safer public.”
