Stabbing lands one in hospital, one in jail

PINE RIVER – A 49-year-old man was arrested following a stabbing Sunday in rural Pine River, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call at 6:13 p.m. about a disturbance at a home in Powers Township.

The news release said deputies arrived and found a 55-year-old man who had been stabbed in the stomach. Richard Thomas Knutson of Backus was taken to a St. Cloud hospital to be treated for injuries.

The release also said Loren Rice, 49, from the Pine River area had been arrested in connection with the investigation. Formal charges have not been filed yet.

American flags to be available for purchase

CASS LAKE – The Cass Lake Legion will be ordering flags to be delivered before Memorial Day.

Flags will be available in different sizes including 3’ x 5’ or ‘4 x ‘6. Flags are made of nylon or polyester.

All flags will be ordered on a prepaid basis. Bring money and order forms to the American Legion after 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Festival of Nations approaching

BEMIDJI – The 44th Annual Festival of Nation sponsored by Bemidji State’s International Student Organization is from 3-6:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hall 100 on campus at Bemidji State University.

The event will open with a colorful flag ceremony and singing of the national anthem followed by student performances, fashion shows and exhibits.

Ticket sales begin shortly before 3 p.m. The cost is $3 for students with an ID and $5 for adults and community members. Each purchase includes three choices of international cuisine, a beverage and a raffle ticket. Additional food tickets will also be available.

Raffle items include a 30-day unlimited level 1 tanning card for Del Sol Tanning, a Target gift card and two JC Penney gift cards.

 The International Student Organization will also announce information about their silent auction event and Dragon Boat registration.

Wild West Comedy performances set

BAGLEY – A Wild West comedy will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Bagley High School Auditorium.

The Bagley High School drama students will perform in the spring play, “Wildcat Katie Brown.” The play will include Wild West themes such as card cheating, searching for oil, unrequited love, gossiping gals, saloon dances and a saloon fight involving all 25 cast members.

Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door 30 minutes before each show.
