Body of man found behind van Thursday morning

BEMIDJI -- A deceased man was found outside a Bemidji residence early Thursday morning. No foul play is suspected in the man’s death, which remains under investigation.

Capt. Jim Marcotte of the Bemidji Police Department confirmed the body of a 42-year-old man was found on the 1400 block of Roosevelt Road SE in Bemidji just after 6:30 a.m.. At this time, foul play is not suspected in the man’s death and it is being treated as a medical situation pending autopsy results, which are expected next week, Marcotte said.

The Bemidji Fire Department logged a medical call to the residence at 6:38 a.m., with a return time of 7:09 a.m.

The homeowner contacted the Pioneer and said a neighbor alerted him to a man lying on the ground behind a van in his driveway at approximately 6:30 a.m. He observed the man to be holding a small flashlight and he appeared blue in color, he said. The homeowner called law enforcement, who arrived at the scene along with emergency medical personnel, who declared the man deceased.
