One in custody after burglary, assault

BEMIDJI -- A Bagley woman has been arrested following a burglary and assault in Bemidji on July 25.

Kristy Iva Platt, 30, faces a first-degree burglary charge, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.

Beltrami County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of an assault and burglary at a residence on Fairview Lane in Beltrami County on July 25. Deputies met the renter who had a bloody face, blood on her clothes, a swollen nose and injuries to her eye socket and nose, according to court documents.

The victim identified her attacker as Platt. Another woman who was with Platt was identified, her whereabouts are currently unknown, according to the statement of probable cause. The other woman was a former roommate of the victim.

The victim was tipped off to Platt and her accomplice burglarizing her home by a friend. Upon arriving at the residence, the victim encountered Platt and the other woman at the scene and told them to leave, according to court documents. Following that confrontation, the victim went into her home and locked the door. After a few minutes, Platt and her accomplice returned to the property, broke through the door and physically attacked the victim, according to the criminal complaint. The victim was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Platt was arrested on Saturday for first-degree burglary. She is scheduled to appear in Beltrami County Court on Monday.

Sheriff's deputies have made several attempts to locate Platt's accomplice at her last known address but she was not located, according to court documents.
