Bemidji Applebee’s linked to E. coli outbreak

BEMIDJI -- The Applebee’s in Bemidji is one of nine Minnesota locations linked so far to a recent outbreak of E. coli.

The Minnesota Department of Health on Thursday released a list of Applebee’s locations across the state where people with E. coli had reported eating.

The outbreak caused by the O111 form of the bacteria was first reported Monday, the release said. Investigators from MDH and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture are working to identify a food item associated with the outbreak.

“No additional details are available regarding specific ingredients, but the Minnesota Department of Agriculture continues to trace back ingredients to suppliers and points of origin looking for a common source,” the release said.

There are 15 cases far, with 12 infected people confirmed to have eaten at Applebee’s between June 23 and June 29.

Other locations linked to the outbreak are:

  • Blaine (two locations)

  • Duluth

  • Roseville

  • Willmar

  • Woodbury

  • Monticello

  • New Hope
