Indigenous Art Festival set for Saturday
The Indigenous Arts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Rail River Folk School, 303 Railroad Street SW.
The event features an open-air indigenous art market, with artist and powwow demonstrations, local American Indian performing artists and opening and closing ceremonies. Live demonstrations include canoe, moccasin, and jingle dress making, as well as beadwork, quill work, black ash basketry, pottery and hide tanning. A welcome will take place at 10 a.m., artists demonstrations from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., powwow demonstrations from noon to 1 p.m. and a closing ceremony at 6 p.m. Live performances by Sonny Johnson, Dafoe Singers, Rez Rap and Windy Downwind will take place from 4 to 6 p.m.
