Bemidji woman stabbed three times, victim found outside Beltrami County Jail

BEMIDJI -- A woman was found sitting on the ground covered in blood outside the Beltrami County Jail Saturday morning. Her assailant has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Jenna Catherine Roy, 22, of Bemidji is accused of stabbing the woman three times on the 300 block of Eighth Street NW in Bemidji. Roy faces up to seven years imprisonment and a $14,000 fine. She appeared in Beltrami County Court on Tuesday.

According to court documents, the female victim was stabbed in the stomach, on the right side of her neck and on her left arm. The victim identified her attacker as Jenna Roy.

Officers found blood on the sidewalk, front steps and up the stairs to an apartment when they arrived on the scene of the assault, according to the complaint. Once a search warrant was obtained, blood was also observed on the bathroom floor, toilet and sink inside the apartment. Officers found a wooden handled knife approximately nine inches long and half an inch wide in the bathroom sink. The weapon was consistent with that described by the victim, according to court documents.

Roy was found hiding in a closet in the apartment. Roy said she had been at the bar with the victim and several other people prior to getting into an argument with the victim at the residence. Roy told police she did not assault the victim and was not aware of any assault having occurred in the apartment. She later informed law enforcement she had been consuming alcohol and she did not remember anything until the officers found her in the closet.

Shortly before the assault, around midnight, Roy spoke with a Bemidji police officer at Downtown Laundry in regard to issues with the victim, according to the criminal complaint. Roy was informed the victim could not be removed from a residence without the homeowner’s request. Court records indicate Roy told police she would be staying at an alternate address.

Roy is currently being held at the Beltrami County Jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.
