Bemidji Jaycees Water Carnival in full swing
BEMIDJI -- The 68th annual Jaycee's Water Carnival was in full force Saturday, with all sorts of activities for kids of all ages.
Saturday's events started with the 17th annual Tutto Bene two mile and 10 kilometer run.
Race organizer Dennis Bartz said there were nearly 250 runners between the two races, with Billy Freyholte (11:25) and Kayla Olson (13:41) taking first overall in the two mile race and Nathan Engel (36.01) and Bailey Drewes (42:44) taking first for their genders in the 10 kilometer race.
Following the races, the kids got to show off their decorated tricycles, wagons and miniature cars in the Kiddie Parade on Lake Boulevard.
The parade brought out kids of all ages, with parents and grandparents lining the streets to cheer them on as they passed by. The parade had a Paul Bunyan theme, which Logan and Madison Jenson along with Marley and Simone Ueland took advantage of, dressing up as Paul and miniature blue ox.
Following the parade, the park was open for the typical carnival games provided by Merriam's Midway Shows.
The carnival rides and the carnival food will continue to accompany Paul and Babe through the Fourth of July, opening daily at noon.
The Bad Campers, a southern country rock band capped off the night in the entertainment tent along the lake in conjunction with 102.5 FM, the Coyote.
The grand parade will take place at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Be sure to check out www.bemidjipioneer.com at 5:00 p.m. for a photo slideshow of the parade.
