Prime Time: Northwoods Caregivers celebrates safety
For nearly 14 years, Northwoods Caregivers has been known as a nonprofit organization committed to serving the needs of seniors and disabled individuals throughout the Bemidji trade area. However, in the past several years, the organization has expanded to also include services for families and children.
First City Visitation Services, a project of Northwoods Caregivers, was developed in 2008 with the help of key partners (including law enforcement, the Sexual Assault Program, Legal Services of Minnesota, Community Education/Early Childhood Family Education and the Beltrami County Judicial System).
The mission of the project is to provide supervised visits and safe exchanges in a neutral, safe and child-focused environment that enables children to establish or maintain a relationship with their caretakers. Over the past few years, the project has continued to grow. In 2011 alone, more than 90 supervised visits and 60 safe exchanges were provided.
This May, Northwoods Caregivers will join more than 325 other organizations nationwide in the "Orange Ribbon Campaign" - the symbol used to promote Supervised Visitation Awareness Month. Developed right here in Minnesota, the Orange Ribbon Campaign celebrates safety and reassures families that the supervised visits and exchanges are healthy, safe and effective for all involved, especially the children.
