Bemidji Fire Department issues March report


BEMIDJI — The Bemidji Fire Department responded to 184 fire calls in March including two building fires. One call was an all-call firefighter page.

The department estimated $6,510 in property was lost due to fire in March. So far in 2014, the BFD has saved $412,720 worth of property threatened by fire, officials said in a press release.

On average, there were 5.9 calls for service per day in March. The department completed 370 hours of training on firefighter survival, wildland firefighter safety, salvage operations, overhaul, rope rescue, trench rescue, fire investigation, pipeline safety, equipment operator training and hazardous materials response. Eleven building inspections were conducted along with six school visits and one fire station tour.

March fire calls included:

40 emergency medical calls

14 motor vehicle crashes with injuries

13 fire alarm responses

6 carbon monoxide incidents

3 gas leaks

2 building fires

2 chimney fires
