Bemidji man sentenced for thefts from cars

BEMIDJI -- One of three people awaiting sentencing for thefts from cars and retailers in Bemidji has been convicted.

Paul Louis Kramer, III, 25, of Bemidji, was sentenced today in Beltrami County District Court for felony theft to 17 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud which is stayed for five years. He must serve 108 days in the Beltrami County Jail and has been credited with 72 days time served.

Kramer has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine plus restitution. As a condition of his release, Kramer is not allowed to enter the Paul Bunyan Mall in Bemidji. The maximum penalty for theft is no more than 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $100,000.

Kramer’s criminal background includes DWI, receiving stolen property and domestic assault in Beltrami County and a felony theft charge in St. Louis County.

Kramer was one of five people from Bemidji arrested in connection with a Bemidji Police Department and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office investigation into thefts from cars outside area businesses and churches in December. Two other people, Nicole Kramer and Lance Week, have yet to be sentenced. Charges against the remaining two individuals were dropped.

Nicole Kramer, 30, is charged with six counts of felony theft. Her next court appearance is today. Week, 27, is charged with three counts of felony financial transaction card fraud. Week is scheduled for sentencing Monday.
