Paul and Babe listed as one of the Top American Roadside Attractions by Time Magazine
Bemidji's statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox have been included in Time Magazine's online list of the Top 50 American Roadside Attractions.
The list does not prioritize the attractions; they, instead, are listed in alphabetical order.
Time notes that Bemidji's Paul Bunyan statue is believe to be the nation's first.
"The 18-ft.-tall, 2.5-ton shrine, erected in 1937, honors the mythic man who became a symbol of strength and vitality from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin to the Western frontier," the article states.
The article further notes that Bemidji claims to be the birthplace of Paul Bunyan, "a fact that of course can not be verified as the giant lumberjack lived only in folk tales and advertising campaigns."
