Mike Columbus poses with his '95 Special'
Mike Columbus of Red Lake Falls poses with his "95 Special" after filling up with gas at the Mentor Convenience Store. Because of polio, he is unable to use his left hand to steer a motorcycle, but he always wanted to ride one, so he and friends built this vehicle. The engine is from a Volkswagen station wagon, the fenders from a tractor, the seats from a Chevy Chevelle and the handlebars from a Harley Davidson. Columbus, with the help of friends such as Mark Violette, seated behind him, finished the project in 10 years in 1995, hence the name "95 Special." Pioneer Photo/Laurie Swenson
