Man suffers gunshot wound after dog jumps into boat

WALKER — A 19-year-old man was treated for a hunting-related gunshot wound to the leg in Cass County on Sunday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to Cass Lake Indian Health Services at 9:23 a.m. where deputies found a man with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, according to Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch.

An investigation into the incident indicated hunters were duck hunting on the Leech River near Federal Dam when a hunting dog jumped into a boat, which engaged the trigger on a shotgun that discharged a bullet into the man’s leg.

Injuries were reported as non-life threatening. No criminal charges are pending.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department.
