Dog show at Beltrami County Fairgrounds begins Friday

BEMIDJI -- The United Kennel Club Dog Show will begin 4 p.m. Friday in the commercial building at the Beltrami County Fairgrounds and continue through Sunday.

Today, the show will feature "rally obedience," which will be a fast-paced demonstration of a dog and handler's ability to perform basic obedience exercises. There will be three levels of rally obedience.

Conformation events, or showmanship, will be featured from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A judge will evaluate a dog's structure as it compares to a written description of the perfect specimen of that breed, called a standard.

The United Kennel Club Dog Show is sponsored by the Paul Bunyan Dog Training Association. Last year, more than 100 dogs from the United States and Canada were entered in the Bemidji event.
