BEMIDJI -- One person suffered non life-threatening injuries after being shot in an appendage Tuesday afternoon and a juvenile is in custody, police said. Both the shooter and the victim were found travelling in the same vehicle not long after police arrived.

The incident occurred at 682 Swenson Road Southeast just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said. In a press release from Beltrami County emergency management director Beryl Wernberg, the victim is identified as Devin Craig Spears-Thomas

Spears-Thomas was taken to a Duluth hospital and is expected to require surgery to repair multiple gunshot wounds, according to Hodapp. The shooting came after a domestic dispute between Spears-Thomas and his wife, Amy Spears-Thomas.

As police arrived, a pickup truck carrying both Devin Spears-Thomas and the juvenile who allegedly carried out the shooting, was spotted. The juvenile was arrested and remains in custody, according to the release.

It is unclear what kind of weapon was used, but investigators could be seen marking shotgun shell casings with crime scene tags outside a metal barn near the residence, off Roosevelt Road Southeast.

Hodapp said there is no threat to public safety and the investigation is ongoing.
