Dragon Boat Festival: Canadians win first Dondelinger GM Sprint Cup

BEMIDJI — The wind was blowing in favor of the dragon-boaters Friday evening on Lake Bemidji for the first ever Dondelinger GM Sprint Cup in the Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival. The race was divided into two heats, each heat made of three races with three boats per race.

Nine teams participated in the sprint race, but it was the two teams from Canada that took the top two positions.

The River City Dragons got the best time in the first heat, with 1:03:50. They got the best time again in the second heat with 1:04:80. The combination score was 2:08:30 that earned the team first place.

In second was fellow Canadians, the Muddy Water Dragons, whose combined timed clocked in at 2:12:98. In third was The Bancaneers with 2:19:64.

Fourth through ninth place were: Park Rapids Rotary Club, Moto Dragons, Pine Tree Paddlers, Oar We There Yet, Paddlers You Can Count On and Point ‘O Sailors.
