Gustafson to head TrekNorth charter school

BEMIDJI -- TrekNorth Junior and Senior High School has a new leader.

A School Board decision on Tuesday put Kristin Gustafson in the director’s chair there. Gustafson has been the school’s assistant director for the past three years, and was named interim director after longtime director Dan McKeon left earlier this summer to helm a different charter school in St. Cloud.

“We look forward to the leadership that (Gustafson) brings as we continue to work together to fulfill the mission and vision of TrekNorth,” Board Chair Darryl Holman wrote in an email to TrekNorth staff.

Gustafson has been an art teacher at Trek since 2006 and moved into its administration in 2014. She has a master’s in educational leadership, and taught at Long Prairie and Hayfield School Districts before moving to the charter school.

The board also interviewed Erica Harmsen, a language arts teacher and director of the school’s service program, and Adam Lanz, an English teacher there. The board offered Gustafson the position Tuesday evening and she accepted.
