BHS musical gets statewide recognition

Two actors from the Bemidji High School fall musical “Into the Woods” and the student orchestra were presented with outstanding awards from the SpotLight program. BEMIDJI – Bemidji High Schools fall musical “Into the Woods” presented Nov. 1-3 received statewide recognition from the 2012-2013 Hennepin Theatre Spotlight Awards receiving several outstanding awards and honorable mentions.

SpotLight honors high school musicals and students by recognizing their achievements.

Throughout the year, evaluators judge musical theatre productions at schools throughout Minnesota and provide constructive feedback to participating students

Schools are given recognition for efforts through awards based on own merit and are not judged competitively against other schools.

The awards recipients were Hannah Allen and Libby Sorenson, who received outstanding performance in a leading role.

The student orchestra received overall outstanding performance. Members of the orchestra were Sophia Wisdom, Maija Otness, Fisher Jambor, Sam Boyer, Matt Bock, Samantha Korczak, Erin Jones, Garret Atteberry, Andrew Graefe, Meghan Frenzel, John McKeown, Chris Peske, Nicle Lyren and Megan Kesler.

Receiving honorable mention performance in a leading role were Isaac Flaa and Levi Heath.

Receiving honorable mention performance in a supporting role were Hannah Fletcher, David Dekry and Nathan Callagan.

Receiving honorable mention performance in a featured role were Erik Sorenson, Mackenzie Degelder and Jadie Hunt.

“Into the Woods” was directed by Jeremiah Liend and Holly Nelson and orchestra director Derek Wickum.
