BHS students recognized for achievements

Dozens of Bemidji High School students received a fanfare from classmates, teachers and administrators Wednesday for qualifying to compete in extracurricular activities at the state level during the spring semester.

Knowledge Bowl members Zach Hewitt, Ben Fultz, Ian Sweeney Smith, Levi Heath and Henry Curtis, along with coach Jason Koester, are at the state meet today and Friday in Brainerd.

Band student Alex Lyren and choir students Jared Liend, Kiley Hazelton, Katie Kovachovich, Matt Bock and Isaac Flaa were congratulated for performing at the All State Band and Choir competitions held earlier this semester.

Students Keegan Hilmer, Josie Spry, Andrew Pilimai, Ryan Best, Dan Pugleasa and Aleigh Ulve, along with adviser J.D. Peterson and staff adviser Josh Peterson, were recognized for being recipients of the 2012 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Upper Midwest Regional Student Television Awards for Excellence for their coverage of the First City of Lights Christmas parade.
