Red Lake student heads to national archery tournament
Twenty-four students from Red Lake Elementary School's archery team competed in the National Archery in the Schools Program competition March 26 in Champlin, Minn.
As a team Red Lake Elementary placed ninth at the competition with a total of 2,507 points. Fifth-grader Bronson Roy scored a personal best at 276 points. Bronson finished fourth in the fifth-grade division, fifth-place in the Elementary Division and 28th overall in the tournament, qualifying him to compete at the national tournament in May in Louisville, Ky.
Red Lake's archery team consists of fourth- and fifth-graders. This year's team is coached by Scott Hanson and Denise Houle.
The Department of Natural Resources coordinates the Archery in the Schools Program in Minnesota. The program's focus is to provide archery training in physical education classes for grades 4-12.
