Geerdes selected for scholarship

BEMIDJI — Beltrami County Commissioner Joe Vene, immediate Past President of the Association of Minnesota Counties, recently selected Mark Geerdes to receive a $1,500 student scholarship during the Association of Minnesota Counties Legislative Conference in St. Paul.

Candidates for the scholarship must demonstrate excellence in the classroom, actively participate in intra- and/or extra-curricular activities and serves as a role model for his or her peers.

The scholarship recipient must also share the Association of Minnesota Counties vision of a future that contains active civic participation, community pride and a sense of community responsibility.

Beltrami Electric chooses Thompson

BEMIDJI — Beltrami Electric has selected Bemidji High School’s Jenna Thompson as its representative for the 2014 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, where she will join hundreds of high school students representing cooperatives on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 13-19.

The trip is a part of an annual youth tour sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the Minnesota Rural Electric Association and Beltrami Electric Cooperative. Thompson is the daughter of Mark and Minda Thompson of Bemidji.
