More freshmen at Bemidji State University this semester
Bemidji State University has released preliminary fall enrollment numbers.
According to Rose Jones, director of communications and marketing at BSU, freshmen enrollment is up approximately 6 percent to roughly 875 students overall.
Overall student enrollment is up 4 percent to roughly 5,100 students.
This number reflects about 4,740 undergraduates and about 380 graduate students.
Overall BSU students enrolled for approximately 65,160 credits, up 5.5 percent from last year at this time.
"This is absolutely great news for the university," said Lisa Erwin, BSU's vice president for student development and enrollment. "Our enrollment is a large factor in determining how we're funded. You can feel all the new energy on campus."
Erwin said despite the recession which often brings more people back to school, BSU has had favorable retention success.
"We've implemented a new student orientation program to strengthen a students' first-year experience," Erwin said. "We've also added an advising student success center."'
Official Minnesota State Colleges and Universities enrollment numbers will be released in early October, one month after the first day of classes.
Enrollment numbers before these 30 days could fluctuate due to changes in student schedules.
