Child, father die after kayak overturns on Hart Lake in Hubbard County

UPDATE: Hit-and-run leads to death of northwest Minn. man; 1 held for charges

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Authorities have released two of three people taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 21-year-old Ponsford, Minn., man dead Thursday night, Feb. 8.

According to information released by Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander:

The sheriff’s office was called about 7:30 p.m. Thursday regarding a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on Pow Wow Highway about a half mile east of Pine Point, Minn., in northwest Minnesota.

Joshua Charles Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect vehicle was later found in Pine Point, and three people were taken into custody. Two of those three were released by Friday afternoon, Feb. 9, pending further investigation.

Glander said Bruce Allen Basswood, 47, of Ponsford, remained in the Becker County Jail on Friday afternoon pending formal charges.
