Bemidji Pioneer Business Briefs for June 10

Karvakko employs summer interns

BEMIDJI -- Santipab "Rueben" Tipparach, Kyle Huerd and Andrew Lund will be interning at Karvakko Engineering this summer.

Tipparach, a Bemidji State University senior majoring in computer science, was granted an internship through the Neilson Foundation Internship Program. Originally from Thailand, Tipparach has taught himself 3-D modeling and 2-D graphic design.

Huerd is a University of Minnesota Duluth senior and is working toward a degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural and water resources. Huerd's past experience includes working as a survey and engineering technician as well as serving in the U.S. Army for six years.

Lund, a Bemidji High School graduate, is also attending the University of Minnesota Duluth. He recently received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering and is currently pursuing his master's degree. Lund has interned at Karvakko Engineering in the past, as well as worked with the Minnesota Department of Transporatation.

Karvakko Engineering is based in Bemidji, with a branch office in Michigan.

Edelman joins Angus association

SOLWAY -- Peyton M. Edelman of Solway is a new junior member of the American Angus Association, according to Bryce Schumann, CEO of the national organization.

Junior members are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in Association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

The American Angus Association, headquartered in St. Joseph, Mo., is the largest beef breed association in the world, with nearly 30,000 active adult and junior members.

Jeff Peltier joins Security BankUSA

BEMIDJI -- Jeff Peltier has joined Security BankUSA, according to President John Baer.

Peltier joins the Security BankUSA's Real Estate Department as a mortgage lender.

A 2007 graduate of Bemidji State University, Peltier was previously employed at The Quarry La Quinta in the Palm Springs area, Wayzata Country Club and Bemidji Town and Country Club.

Originally from Grand Rapids, Peltier is living in the Bemidji area and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Young Professional Network.

Jodi Maki joins Ameriprise Financial

BEMIDJI -- Jodi Maki has joined the Bemidji office of Ameriprise Financial Services Inc., as a financial adviser. Her office is located at 3404 Bemidji Ave. N. (Birchwood Complex). She is part of the practice of Richard A. Condiff, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services Inc.

Maki brings more than 20 years of organizational management and financial development experience to this position.

As a financial adviser, she will work to help clients plan for their financial goals through a personal long-term financial planning relationship.

Maher promoted at Deerwood Bank

BEMIDJI -- Rob Maher was recently promoted from credit analyst to business banking officer at Deerwood Bank's Bemidji branch.

Maher joins Phil Verchota as Deerwood Bank's business bankers, responsible for servicing existing business needs and developing new business relationships in the Bemidji area.

Maher, a certified managerial accountant, is originally from Grand Rapids. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee where he studied accounting and economics. While in college, Maher worked for Deerwood Bank's Grand Rapids branch as a summer intern before graduating and being hired as a credit analyst in Bemidji more than a year ago.
