UPDATED: Man struck by train near water treatment plant

Emergency personnel were on the scene after a 59-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a train off Paul Bunyan Drive South. BEMIDJI -- A 59-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a train near the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bemidji.

Bemidji Police responded to the incident at 2:15 p.m. at the railroad crossing at the Lake Irving Access Loop, a release said.

The male was treated on the scene before being transported to the Bemidji Sanford Medical Center by ambulance. The accident remains under investigation, police say, and the department was assisted on the scene by the Bemidji Fire Department, Bemidji Ambulance Service and the Minnesota State Patrol.
