Alcohol-involved crash claims life of Central Minn. woman

BACKUS, Minn. —A 23-year-old woman is dead after a crash Friday night, March 9, on Highway 371 north of Backus in central Minn.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported Dani Rebecca Detloff of Backus died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 16th Street Northwest and Highway 371 in central Cass County.

According to the crash report, Detloff was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus eastbound on 16th Street Northwest and pulled out from a stop sign. The Taurus was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling south on Highway 371. The truck was driven by 55-year-old Paul Linn Hamilton of Backus. Linn and his passenger, 56-year-old Jennifer Jane Hamilton of Backus, suffered no injuries in the crash.

The state patrol reported all those involved in the crash wore seat belts. An airbag deployed in the pickup truck, but not in the Taurus. The crash report stated in the case of the Hamiltons, alcohol was involved in the crash. Whether Detloff was under the influence of alcohol was unknown late Friday. Road conditions were dry.

Backus is located about 40 miles north of Brainerd.
