Driver needed to be extracted from crash that injured three near Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - Three area people were injured in a one-vehicle crash along the 32000 block of Highway 26 in the early hours of Nov. 21.

According to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 2:10 a.m., a 911 call came in reporting the crash, which occurred when the Ford Taurus, carrying three people, left the roadway and crashed into trees along the highway.

The crash caused the driver, Candace Roberts, 28, of Ponsford, to become trapped. Roberts had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Detroit Lakes Fire Department Rescue 1.

The driver, along with her two passengers, Stephani Penney, 38, of Vergas, and Terra Roberts, 30, of Detroit Lakes, were transported to Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital by St. Mary's EMS.

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, and the severity of the injuries is still unknown, according to the sheriff's office.

The Becker County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Detroit Lakes Fire Department, St. Mary's EMS, the Callaway Fire Department, the Detroit Lakes Police Department, and Sanford AirMed.
