Volunteers vital to mission, help needed

BEMIDJI – The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, known as RSVP, is thanking volunteers in April, which is designated as a time to recognize those who donate time to help others.

In a news release, RSVP said it would like to thank 465 volunteers in Beltrami County in the America Reads, Readers Theater, Bone Builders, and in 22 other partnering organizations that rely on volunteers.

RSVP provides volunteer opportunities for people age 55 or older in the community.

In addition, there are several volunteer needs, including:

— The American Red Cross office in Bemidji is looking for volunteers who can be trained for its disaster action team, which responds to local and regional disasters by helping victims of fires, floods, tornadoes and other emergencies. Volunteers can also help at local events.

— Lakeland Public Television needs volunteers to help stuff and label envelopes at various times throughout the year, usually two to three hours at a time, once or twice a month. Volunteers are also needed to answer phones during pledge drives in June, August/September and December.

— The ARC United Thrift Store needs volunteers to sort, price and organize donated items. Also, a volunteer to sell treasures on eBay. The thrift store funds programs offered by the ARC United that support individuals with special needs in our community.

— The Bemidji Community Food Shelf needs volunteers on the third Monday of each month, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
