Marvin Andrews

Marvin L. Andrews, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at his home, under the care of Hospice of The Red River Valley.

Marvin Lloyd Andrews was born to John and Rose (Rixe) Andrews on Aug. 28, 1928 in Johnson, Minn. He was raised and educated at Graceville, Minn. Following graduation from Graceville High School, he was employed by the First State Bank of Graceville. Marvin served with the U. S. Army in Korea, 1950-52. Following his discharge, he worked for the Vergas State Bank, 1952-56.

Marvin married Lorraine Bickel Torson on Jan. 21, 1956 at Frazee. They moved to Graceville, where Marv was an officer and insurance agent at First State Bank. In 1981, they moved to Detroit Lakes, where Marvin worked for what is now Wells Fargo Bank until retiring in 1994.

Marv was a former member of the First State Bank Board of Directors, the Graceville School Board and the Graceville Nursing Home Board. He was also a member of John Bridges American Legion Post 15 in Detroit Lakes.

Surviving Marvin are his wife, Lorraine Andrews of Detroit Lakes; a son, Steven (Kay) Andrews of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Janet (Ross) Stark of Jamestown, N.D.; a stepson, Thomas (Karen) Torson of Bethel, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Ronald) Buntje of Appleton, Minn., and Diane (Ronald) Ritter of Chokio, Minn.; as well as 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Preceding Marv in death were his parents and a granddaughter, Jamie Torson.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 with a Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, with military honors provided by the Lake Region Honor Guard.
