Former Ogema resident Gerald L. "Jerr Bear" Kozitka, 57, of Indego, Calif., died Sunday, December 9, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Gerald Lee Kozitka was born to Clarence and Joyce (Liezert) Kozitka on July 28, 1950 in Detroit Lakes. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema.

Gerald attended Waubun Public Schools, and later worked in building construction in the Ogema-Waubun area. He attended Farrier College in Sturgis, S.D., and became a professional farrier, traveling throughout the entire United States shoeing horses. In 1986, he became employed with Granite Construction Company of Indio, Calif., and traveled the world working on various construction projects.

Jerry was a member of the Club on the Green two-cycle engine club, the Dalton Club, and was an avid antique John Deer Tractor collector. He enjoyed horses, photography, John Deere tractors, traveling, his dog Duke, air shows, the Olympics, the National Rodeo and the National Country Music Awards.

Survivors include his mother, Joyce Kozitka of Detroit Lakes; brothers and sisters, Curt (Dawn) Kozitka of Detroit Lakes, Janice (Tom) Teiken of Ogema, Wayne (Lorrie) Kozitka of Howard Lake, Minn., Betty (Robert) Berry of Philip, S.D., Steve (Jane) Kozitka of Ogema, Dinah (Ron) Henderson of Golden Valley, Minn., Walt (Jane) Kozitka of Detroit Lakes, Connie (Dave) Skrivseth of Maple Grove, Minn., Rick Kozitka of Perham and Jim (Tracey) Kozitka of Crookston, Minn.

Preceding Gerald in death were his father, Clarence; his grandparents; and a nephew, Mike Teiken.

FFuneral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema, with the Rev. Del Stohs officiating. Friends may call at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Interment will be in the Ogema Cemetery.
