New bike shop to open in Bemidji

BEMIDJI – A bike shop will open in the old Harmony Foods building in downtown Bemidji in the coming weeks.

Northern Cycle, of Park Rapids, is adding a second location here, owner Todd Williams said Friday.

“(It’s) a larger market,” said Williams, who has owned Northern Cycle for 16 years. He added that the completion of the Paul Bunyan State Trail was another factor in the store’s expansion.

“We do a lot of bike rental down in Park Rapids and I intend to do a lot up here also,” Williams said.

The building, located at 117 3rd St. NW., has been vacant since Harmony Foods moved down the street in June 2011. Williams said they’ve been working on flooring, painting, and installing a new heating system in the old building.

“It’s quite a bit of stuff,” he said.

Williams said he hopes to open at the end of March or the beginning of April.
