Bemidji man charged in stabbing
BEMIDJI—A Bemidji man was charged with a felony Monday after he allegedly stabbed another man in the hand.
According to a criminal complaint:
Beltrami County deputies were called to the 1100 block of Augusta Drive Northeast at about 3:22 a.m. Saturday. The victim, referred to in the complaint as D.C., told deputies that he had woken up to the sound of Lewis Edward Barney, 47, arguing with a woman.
The victim said he separated Barney and the woman, at which point he and Barney started to argue. Barney then pulled out a 4-inch-long folding knife and stabbed D.C. in the hand.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw that the victim had a cut across the base of the first finger on his right hand. They also saw droplets of blood "all over" the front steps, entryway, kitchen floor and kitchen counter of the home.
After a short foot pursuit, deputies arrested Barney. He was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Barney is scheduled to appear in court Monday, March 12.
