BEMIDJI -- A 52-year-old Bemidji man was found dead Sunday in a wooded area between Lake Irving and Lake Bemidji.
According to a news release from Police Chief Mike Mastin, officers received a report at 8:15 p.m. Saturday of an intoxicated man behind Lakeview Liquor store who could not get up. When officers arrived, the man was not behind the story and officers searched the immediate area but could not find him. Officers then continued to search a wooded area south of Lakeview Liquor.
Police did not find the man on Saturday night but did locate tracks in the snow that appeared to show someone leaving the area, the release said.
Officers returned to the scene Sunday morning and found the body of Richard Needham, 52, in a wooded area east of Lakeview Liquor. Needham was homeless, Mastin said. His body was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
The news release said there was no indication of foul play and that the case remains under investigation.
