Blackduck Speech team notches second place
Blackduck High School’s speech team placed second overall as a team on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Grand Rapids, and brought home 12 individual awards, too.
Earning honorable mention awards were Logen Patch in Drama; Kaydre Gullette and Regan Frenzel in Duo; and Lillian Knotts in Prose.
Sixth place winners were Jody Bloom and Nolan Juelson in Duo Interpretation.
Fourth place winners were Andrew Metzler in Discussion and Ellie Cleveland in Humor.
Third place went to Matthew Metzler in Informative Speaking.
Second place honors went to Jody Bloom in Creative Expression and Savannah Marsh in Serious Interpretation of Poetry.
Blackduck also had four tournament champions: Angello Bell in Creative Expression; Ellie Cleveland in Great Speeches; and Matthew Metzler and Lilly Knotts in Duo Interpretation.
All of the Champions received straight number one rankings from all judges.
Five speakers are in action this weekend in McGregor, and the full team will be hosting a varsity tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4 and a junior high tournament on Monday, Feb. 6.
The community is invited to join the team for the annual fund-raising dinner that the American Legion Auxiliary puts on to benefit the speakers.
The menu there will be spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, and desserts for free will donations. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 in the BHS multi-purpose room.
Funds raised help to provide new literary material, props, posters and supplies.
